Red Devils in Singapore

After conducting several youth developmental courses over the past few years, the Manchester United Soccer Schools will set up a permanent base at the ITE College Central in Ang Mo Kio. As part of their community outreach programme, they conducted a soccer and nutrition workshop for the teenagers at the Teens Network Club on last Sunday at our Bedok clubhouse.

The teenagers had an eye-opener on the learning philosophies imparted in similar fashion to their peers in Manchester, England. The coaches shared invaluable experiences of training with a top professional football club and also engaged in games and quizzes relating to football.

Even the torrential rain did not dampen the spirits of the teenagers who were wow-ed by the prospects of playing at the academy one day...

The planned practical session did not happen though, but we're sure to arrange possible future sessions again.

Teens Network Club 10th Anniversary
Sports Fiesta 2012 - Qualifying Round 2

Day 2 was as competitive as the first as more teams seek to snatch the remaining 3 qualification spots for the chance to play in the finals.

Competition aside, we witnessed new friendship forged and the spirit of sportsmanship displayed. Even the level of competition was raised a notch.

Special Feature :- Teens Network Talent Development Fund

As the Teens Network Club celebrated its 10th anniversary last year, the Teens Network Talent Development Fund was set up to provide seed money to budding teenagers who have shown potential in non-academic areas like performing arts and sports.

This fund helps to provide financial aid to eligible youth from low income families by supporting them for relevant training and courses in their talent field to assist them to realise their fullest potential.

The fun was officially launched by Emeritus Senior Minister (ESM) Goh Chok Tong at the Teens Network Club's 10 Anniversary Musical - Music Brings Us Together, which was held on 30 June 2012 at the Drama Centre, National Library. It was where Mr Goh Chok Tong unveiled a cheque of $200,000 as seed funding that was partly raised by the youth themselves.

The first cohort of 12 recipients who have been identified for this funding has 4 teenagers under the Sports category where they have shown talent to excel in Football. They are :-

1) Reimy Jasmani Bin Jamil
2) Zulhelmi Bin Ismadi
3) Sundramoorthy
4) Muhd Adli Amirul Zaman Bin Kamalruzaman

They are currently placed in youth football developmental programmes in their age-groups at the Arsenal Soccer School and Fandi Ahmad Academy.

We will be following their progress over the few months and are already looking forward to the next batch of footballers who show promise.

The future of Singapore football looks great.

Teens Network Club 10th Anniversary
Sports Fiesta 2012 - Qualifying Rounds

To reach out to more footballers in the community, the 2012 edition of the Sports segment of our flagship event turned to the streets, extending its registration to the schools and the general public. As it turned out, we received an overwhelming response of entries and the qualifiers had to be played at 2 venues over 2 days.

With only 6 qualifiers making it to the finals at *SCAPE, competition for the coveted places was tough from the word go. The U-16 category was a tough draw as many teams had school team players. The standard of play was raised another level as more players got to spur with better teams.

The Teens Network Club also had representation from every club, hoping to challenge for the milestone trophy.

EURO fever heats up June?

After a hiatus of 9 months, football takes centrestage once more as teams reveal their new line-ups, most notably Taman Jurong and Bedok. The 2 teams squared up in the Qualifying rounds today, in an impressive display of attractive football. In this year's edition, the winners of the qualifiers will be grouped in Division A and the losers in Division B in an effort to spice up the 6-year old league which has already groomed a pool of amateur football players.

With all matches taking place at the Queenstown Sec Sch football field, this year will see an introduction of the 9-a-side playing format as we move closer to the 11-a-side dream.

Scheduled fixtures are published for the school holidays in June and we shall conclude the trophy presentation with the FA Cup knockout competition for both Under-14 and Under-17 teams on 1 July 2012 at Sengkang.

Support your teams as they take to the field with renewed confidence, renewed rivalry and rejuvenated fitness.

Our own FA Cup launches!

In another first for our football league, the Teens Challenge Cup was launched on the final matchday (17 July 2011) of this season. A knockout competition provided the teams with another opportunity to finish 2011 with silverware. In a format similar to most FA cup competitions, the 8 clubs squared off against each other in explosive style as every team hoped for a good draw, which meant avoiding Premier League winners, Bukit Merah.

In a format where lady luck plays a big part, teams threw caution to the win by employing mostly an all-out attack. Games were mostly end to end stuff with shots and saves aplenty.

Bukit Merah survived waves of attacks and countered with more goals to turn it to their advantage by dominating latter proceedings to successfully become the first club to clinch the league and cup double.

Final Standings - Season 5

As the curtains come down on this edition's football season, we witnessed Bukit Merah's resurgence and remained unbeaten throughout all matches to lift the Premier League trophy for the second time; matching MacPherson's 2 previous triumphs.
Sembawang's fantastic run in the title chase was only halted by the champion's drubbing in Matchday 3 as they finished bridesmaids. Surprise package Ang Mo Kio shook off first day jitters by winning all their remaining games, barring a defeat to (also) Bukit Merah to finish a creditable third, holding off Bedok who only lost their podium position after a nervous breakdown against Sembawang in the final match of the season.
Taman Jurong and MacPherson's youthful charges held their own as they fought tooth and nail against older opponents. This bodes well as they prepare for next season's challenge. Geylang West will rue their meek surrender of the title as the team fell into pieces after Matchday 1. Not one to overlook for next season as they regroup to mount a serious comeback come 2012.
